Copper slag
Copper slag is a by-product of copper extraction by smelting. During smelting, impurities become slag which floats on the molten metal. Slag that is quenched in water produces angular granules which are disposed of as waste or utilized as grite for sandblasting.
this product, which is the waste material produced in the extraction process of copper metal in refinery plants, has low cost, and its as a fine aggregate in sandblasting many environmental benefits, such as waste recycling, and solves disposal problems.
Slag from ores that are mechanically concentrated before smelting contain mostly iron oxides and silicon oxides
TACHRA GRIT
The company manufactures a range of Grit from mineral Copper Refinery Slag . The product is sold under the trade name of TACHRA GRIT.
TACHRA GRIT was established in 2018 as a private company in Iran and due to the production of products in accordance with international standards, it has had the honor of cooperating with the most prominent industrial companies in Iran and neighboring countries
Copper slag in blasting
this product is mainly used for surface blast-cleaning. Abrasive blasting is used to clean and shape the surface of metal, stone, concrete and other materials. In this process, a stream of abrasive grains called grit are propelled toward the workpiece. this product is just one of many different materials that may be used as abrasive grit. Rate of grit consumption, amount of dust generated, and surface finish quality are some of the variables affected by the choice of grit material.
Internationally the described media is manufactured in compliance with ISO ۱۱۱۲۶-۳[۴]
The blasting media manufactured from this product brings less harm to people and environment than sand. The product meets the most rigid health and ecological standards.
The chemical composition of copper slag
varies with the type of furnace. The typical composition of smelting slags is Fe (as FeO, Fe3O4) 30–۴۰%; SiO2 35–۴۰%; Al2O3 up to 10%; and CaO up to 10%. The density of copper slag varies between 3.16 and 3.87 g/cm3 based on the amount of iron content.

this product is a byproduct of the copper smelting process. It is a grayish-black, glassy material that is composed of various oxides, including silica, alumina, and iron oxide. Copper slag is a valuable secondary resource that can be used in a variety of applications, including:
- Construction aggregate: this product can be crushed and used as an aggregate in concrete, asphalt, and other construction materials. this product aggregate is stronger and more durable than traditional aggregate, and it can also help to reduce concrete permeability.
- Abrasive blasting grit: this product can be used as a substitute for sand in abrasive blasting applications. Copper slag grit is harder and more durable than sand, and it can also help to reduce dust emissions.
- Road de-icing material: this product can be used as a de-icing material on roads and sidewalks. Copper slag is less corrosive than salt, and it can also help to reduce the amount of salt that enters waterways.
- Landfill cover material: this product can be used as a cover material in landfills. this product is less permeable than traditional cover materials, and it can also help to reduce the amount of leachate that enters groundwater.
addition to these applications, copper slag is also being researched for use in other applications, such as:
- Water treatment: this product can be used to remove contaminants from water. Copper slag can adsorb heavy metals, such as lead and cadmium, from water.
- Refractory materials: this product can be used to make refractory materials, which are used to line furnaces and other high-temperature applications. Copper slag refractories are more durable than traditional refractories, and they can also help to reduce energy consumption.
this product is a versatile and sustainable material that can be used in a variety of applications. As the demand for copper increases, the demand for copper slag is also expected to increase. This makes copper slag a valuable resource for the future.

What is copper slag used for?
Currently, copper slag has been widely used for abrasive tools, roofing granules, cutting tools, abrasive, tiles, glass, road-base construction, railroad ballast, asphalt pavements, cement and concrete industries.
Is copper slag harmful?
The U.N. Basel Convention on the Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal considered and ultimately ruled that copper slags are not hazardous wastes
What is in copper slag?
Copper slag, which is produced during pyrometallurgical production of copper from copper ores contains materials like iron, alumina, calcium oxide, silica etc. For every tonne of metal production about 2.2 ton of slag is generated.
